CONFERENCE VENUES

The Delivering Value From Avian Genomes Conference and its associated Avian Gene Ontology workshop will be held at Mississippi State University campus at Starkville, Mississippi. Mississippi State university forms part of a cohesive town-university community with the growing agricultural-commercial-industrial town of Starkville.

The Conference Venue will be the Hunter Henry Center on the MSU Campus.

Blocks of rooms have been reserved in the following hotels for conference participants. The cost will be $104 per night. When making reservations, please mention that you are participating in the Conference or the Workshop.

Bus transportation from the Hampton Inn will be provided to the  Hunter Henry Center.  The Comfort Suites is within easy walking distance of the Hunter Henry Center.

The Gene Ontology Training Workshop will be held in the ELI and Giles Rooms of the Mitchell Memorial Library at the MSU Main Campus. A map of the campus showing the library can be found here.

GETTING HERE
By Air
The MSU Campus is accessible by feeder air service through the Golden Triangle Regional (GTR) Airport 14 miles east. Visitors can fly directly from Atlanta to the Golden Triangle Regional Airport and buses will be available to pick up and delivery to the hotels and conference venues.  Alternatively, visitors can fly into Birmingham, Alabama (2.5 hours away) or Jackson, Mississippi (2 hours away) and drive a rental car to Starkville.

By Road
Located in the eastern part of north-central Mississippi, the MSU Campus is 125  miles northeast of Jackson and 23 miles west of Columbus; it is served by Highways 82,12 and 25. Information about rental car services at the GTR Airport can be found here.

Eating Out In Starkville

Several restaurants, cafes and bars are available within a short walking distance from the Hunter Henry Center, on University Drive.

Climate
Starkville has a temperate climate with warm, humid summers and mild, dry winters. During May the average temperatures range from 81-59oF (15-27oC). Rainfall is likely throughout the year.
